Weights + Measures

WEIGHTS + MEASURES

ilo ORGANICS soaps are handmade using the cold process method of soap-making. They are left to “cure” - a term used to refer to leaving the soaps to evaporate the water content and harden - for varying periods of time between 4 to 8 weeks, depending on the soap type and sizing. The soaps are then packaged for sale, but the evaporation process continues over time. The weights can therefore vary slightly after packaging.

Our square soaps are cut by hand after making. The cutting blade can sometimes deviate with the force required, resulting in a slightly irregular-shaped cake. This is a normal occurrence in the manufacture of handmade soap and does not affect the quality or purity of the square soap cakes produced.

Our round soaps are individually moulded in their final shape and are not cut by hand. Their weights vary relative to the properties and densities of the ingredients used. For example, our heaviest round soap, salti, has a high concentration of natural sea salt, which has a higher density and weight (by volume) than plant oil.

Soap labels are stamped with the date of manufacture, pre-curing. Due to the volatility of organic plant oils, we recommend that soaps be used within 12 months from this date.

To comply with the requirements of The National Measurement Institute - which allows for a variation percentage in soaps/evaporation, the weights ilo ORGANICS indicates on its products are undervalued. The weight of a single soap cake (square) is on average 150g, but the indicated net weight is 135g minimum when packed. At 150g average weight, our soaps are sized 50% larger than an average commercial cake of soap at 100g.

ilo ORGANICS soaps are individually hand packaged in environmentally sustainable, biodegradable cellophane, with the exception of salti soap, which is shrink-wrapped packaged to maintain an airtight seal.

Salti soap is susceptible to environmental conditions, particularly humidity, and can be adversely affected if left unprotected for prolonged periods of time before use. The natural sea salt content of salti soap is hygroscopic, attracting moisture from the air and causing the soap to ‘sweat’.

To comply with the requirements of The National Measurements Institute, the organic essential oil blends are precisely measured and sealed in 15mL and 5mL bottles. Once the seal has been broken, care should be taken to tighten the lid after use, or stored upright at all times, to avoid leakage.

All ilo ORGANICS essential oil bottles are fitted with a ‘dripolator’ to allow controlled use. Caution should be applied until the appropriate flow rate has been established - a continuous stream of oil may be dispensed if the bottle is inverted at an extreme angle. Do not remove dripolator from bottle.

SOAP WEIGHTS:

SINGLE CAKES: 135g min* each square cake

HONI + OLI CAKES: 70g min* each round cake

COFI CAKES: 75g min* each round cake

SALTI CAKES: 85g min* each round cake

INDI CAKES: 20g min* each individual cake

* minimum net weight when packed - product weight can vary due to continuing evaporation

SOAP CAUTIONARY NOTES

Avoid contact with eyes.
Do not ingest.
Check INGREDIENTS for allergies.
Sea salt content of ‘salti’ soap can cause stinging to sensitive mucous membranes of eyes, nose and mouth, and broken skin. Use with caution to these areas.
Best used within 12 months of manufacture date on label. Keep soap well aired and drained at all times to ensure longevity of soap.
